A new cosplay of Naruto's Deidara perfectly captures the villain's catchphrase: art is an explosion! Reddit is home to an innumerable number of community-based forums and many cosplayers take advantage of the platform to show off their costumed interpretations while also celebrating the characters and series they love. This time around, Deidara steals the show.
Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto is a manga about a young ninja whose dream is to become Hokage, the leader and protector of his village, set in a fictional world based on Japanese culture and myth. The titular character faces many obstacles and enemies on his quest, including an organization of powerful rogue ninja known as the Akatsuki. Deidara is a member of the Akatsuki and has the bizarre ability to create articulate bombs out of special detonating clay through the use of mouths in the palms of his hands.
Posted on Reddit by user GioAugust is a side-by-side image depicting a gender-bent version of the bomb throwing villain in the signature attire of the Akatsuki; black robes adorned with red clouds. On the left, Deidara is tilting her head back and holding up her hand (presumably in the process of making a bomb?) while staring into the camera. On the right, she maintains a pose that looks calmer and more collected, although her gaze is still set on the camera, suggesting to whoever she is looking at that she is a force to be reckoned with.
In the Naruto manga, Deidara is a powerful and cunning foe that likes to fight dirty. He is able to singlehandedly defeat the Kazekage Gaara, leader of the Hidden Sand Village, by forcing him to sacrifice himself for the people in his village. Deidara's ultimate attack is the Naruto equivalent of a nuclear bomb, capable of wiping out all life in a large radius. His artistic creations are more than just bombs, too. He can use them to fly, recon areas, and even deliver parcels.
Although Deidara is a minor villain in the grand scheme of the plot of Naruto, he definitely makes his mark as an iconic member of the Akatsuki. GioAugust highlights this in an impressive cosplay that depicts both the artistic side and sinister side of the character. Surely, if Naruto's Deidara himself were to see this portrayal, he would proudly proclaim that it is indeed art.
